investigation tell me that they do not believe that this is the body of missing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. let's take a look at sky 7 hd video from earlier. there are approximately a dozen crime scene investigators from both san benito county sheriff's office working this area on canyon road. and this body discovered around 9:00 this morning. sources say the victim is la teena. investigators spent hours processing the area. >> detectives based on evidence and information found on or near the body they're now ruling this, or investigating the homicide. and there is the deceased person, the body is that of a female.

>> and of course, this discovery would raise questions about the possibility of this body being that of sierra lamar. law enforcement as well as community volunteers have been searching for the 15-year-old for nearly six months now. she disappeared on march 16th. so far they've not found any evidence that might indicate where she's located and sources tell me they do not believe this is a body of sierra lamar. her suspected killer is in custody. and now it appear was this discovery, in remote san benito county there is a new homicide investigation on their hands. in san juan bautista, abc 7 news. >> there is a missing persons case now. he is accused of abducting his children from his mother's house.

boat was spotted today. the coast guard is tracking progress back to shore, we're learning more about his violent past. and there is that and we begin with speaking to the children's mother. >> yeah. it's been a day of ups and downs for that mother. this morning she found out boat has been spotted and being tracked by the coast guard. but she's also finding out it's likely going to take upwards of eight hours to and before authorities make contact with that boat. throughout the day, jennifer has been waiting for word about her two children. the 3-year-old brooklyn and 2-year-old devon. she has a bag full of clothes packed. >> looks like he's going towards shore, they're hoping maybe he's going to try to do that. >> the children believed to be

aboard a 40 foot boat with their father and mees say he forced his way into the home and took two children, then drove them to ala media. he allegedly stole the vessel. boat has been seen some time around 4:00 a.m. today by a commercial fishing ship about 50 miles off piller point. >> the fisherman saw my daughter on deck. i'm hoping my son was in the cabin, hopefully sleeping. >> the coast guard dispatched a helicopter. they're tracking from the air. they're coordinating with south san francisco police this, first started on tuesday and he says she showed up in her house. >> my daughter saw him and she opened the door. my mom said "no" but it was too late. he opened it up. both kids were right there. he reached them, scooped them up and took off. >> her 71-year-old mother, jean was injured when she

tried chasing him. she tripped and says he had a great relationship with the kids but was set off because of a conversation. she warned he may not be able to see the children anymore. he was mad at me because i told him he needed to get his act together because he wasn't working and didn't have a job, didn't work. and didn't have transportation or a place to stay him anymore, staying in a friend's house. >> and this coast guard and police do not know where the boat is going to make land fall. they've dispatched resources, to track it from several parts throughout the coastal area and they have a command post with the coast guard. reporting live in south san francisco, abc 7 news. >> and we're learning more tonight how that boat was stolen. and unleashed taken around 8:00 tuesday night and and

this is after he says he had visited several people claiming he wanted to buy a boat and keep it there. >> about two and a half weeks ago we took two children and he said he wanted to show the kids the boat. the kids got excited about it. and. >> adding the only red flag she noticed is that he was reluctant to give personal information claim waegz from overseas and couldn't give his phone number because his cell wasn't working. >> it doesn't end there. this man has a past. there is a woman that says? 1989 she was assaulted by him when she lived here in the bay area and we have the story. >> 23 years ago she was working for san mateo county parks and rec. she encountered an angry mafay turning into a personal injury

case, which she won. in 1989 rhonda was working as a park ranger aide at an event known as bicycle sunday. and her duty to keep cars out of the area. she says she encountered christopher lafay upset he couldn't get through. >> he jumped out, punches me out. and tries to run me over with his truck. i rolled into my vehicle. and he sped off. and i got his license number, i struggled, pregnant at that time. >> she says she miscarried the next day. he used her married last name, soon ma -- sued mafay and received an undisclosed amount. she now lives in clear lake. she contacted us after seeing him on the news. the san mateo county superior

court confirmed in 2009, he was charged with grand theft, and the case was dismissed. abc 7 news also obtained a copy of the order against mafay. the court grantedded this order because there is reason to believe he might take the children outside of the u.s.. after it was revealed that he had quit his job, and closed his bank accounts, got rid of his assets, and sold his home. the order ponts out he had lived in thailand and had several bank accounts there. >> and there must be a hearing on the matter. the judge asked he appear in court two weeks from today, september 21. in the newsroom abc 7 news. >> and thank you very much. more on that story we'll continue to follow it. breaking news tonight. mandatory evacuations underway now because of a fire burning in lake county.

also a friend will have a seven year jents for volume layer tee manslaughter, part of a group of friends that stabbed luis santos to death after they get into a college party. schwartzeneggar shortened nunez's sentence under powers a california governor has, saying esteban should not have gotten the same sentence as the man holding the knife. the family criticized this move as a back door deal for the politically connected. the san diego d.a.is trying to reverse this, saying he violated marcy's law, governors must give families notice of sentence reductions and they lost round one. the victim's mom is upset. >> she thinks this is outrageous and she's disappointed and believes there is political corruption involved.

monsoon rains causing damage in parts of arizona. roads have been turned into rivers. efforts are underway to rescue people trapped in cars by rising water. you can see one man standing on his truck waiting for help. and authorities say there is a threat of more flash floodings. the rain claimed a live we know of.

a 52-year-old woman found inside of her car in tuson. there is more rain expected this weekend. >> and there is a east bay teenager accused of hitting and killing a man riding their bikes in concord is considering a plea deal. the district attorney says the 17-year-old driver may change his plea to guilty of manslaughter. he was driving a white suv that ran over the two last april and the 12-year-old was injured. the judge continued the hearing to give them time to discuss the deal its not up close and personal but if you twoobt see the space shuttle you're qog to get a unique opportunity to do that, too there is nasa transporting the space shuttle to a museum in los angeles. and during this journey it will do low level fly overs past urban areas to so folks can see it.

tonight abc joins 15 other networks to raise awareness about cancer. since 2008 the telethon pulled in more than $180 million for cancer research.

katie couric is a founder and is still involved. larry beil and i sat down and talked with her about the dedication to the cause. there is monday, she'll launch her talk show and will be part of a national effort to raise wareness about cancer. >> one in every two men will be diagnosed in his lifetime. and there is a cause hitting hope for katie. her husband died from colon cancer in 1998, just 42. >> you reacted by stepping out and becoming an advocate for cancer screening. >> you know it is my proudest accomplishment other than raising my daughters. the work is something i feel

so happy about. i've been able to save lives. >> she underwent a colonoscopy on national tv. her willingness to do the test in front of a camera prompted tens of thousands to undergo a procedure they'd avoided. it jumped 20% in the month that's followed. >> that means people are getting screened and lives are being saved. >> doctors call it couric affect. it's about saving lives, keeping families together. >> a friend who is a doctor saying katie saved a lot more lives than i will in my whole career which is such a nice thing to do to be able to take this personal tragedy and do something for the greater good and to help other people. >> you can make a difference as well, by duning into the stand up to cancer telethon tonight at 8:00 and a remindert new show premiers on
